Below is what the students will be learning in the following subject areas; reading, writing, word study (phonics), and math throughout the week!
During Reading Workshop the students.....
1. Celebrate their reading by making Super Power Reading Capes!
2. Review and practice super reading powers and how to look for patterns to help us read.
3. Readers Retell books after they read them.
4. What is a Character? What is the Setting (in a story)?
During Writing Workshop the students....
1. Teach students there are different kinds of writing (narrative, how to, nonfiction...)
2. Teach and try the following steps for 'How to Books' - 1. Tell what to do in steps 2. Number your steps
3. Writers write what they already know about - teaching and telling the steps across a page (ex. How to get dressed for school.)
During Word Study (Phonics) the students...
1. Segmenting sounds in CVC words
2. Every word has a vowel
3.Stretching words to hear more sounds
4. Rhyme and how I can use my rhyming skills to spell new words
During Math this students continue to practice/understand...
1. Number Pairs, Addition and Subtraction to 10
2. What is a number bond? How do we decompose numbers?
3. Read math stories and math drawings to record number bonds
